Belfast’s favourite dish

Tesco has recently surveyed the whole of the UK to find out what our favourite dishes are and have compiled the results for different areas. They discovered that Belfast’s favourite dish is *drumroll*

Spaghetti Bolognese!

Tesco kindly provided me with the ingredients to make one.

Tesco Real Food Spaghetti Recipe

Ingredients

30ml Olive oil

400g beef mince

200ml beef stock

150ml red wine

400g chopped tomatoes

1 Bay leaf

Salt

Ground black pepper

300g spaghetti

50g Parmesan

Method

Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over a medium heat for 1 minute. Add the onions with a little salt and sweat for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Increase the heat and add the mince, browning well and stirring it break the meat up. Once browned, stir in chopped tomatoes, then the stock and red wine and bring to the boil. The sauce will look unite thin at this point but it will thicken as it reduces.

Reduce the heat to a simmer and add th bay leaf. Cook for 45-50. Minutes uncovered unto sauce has thickened, making sure to stir it occasionally.

Once the sauce is ready, adjust seasoning and keep warm. Cook the spaghetti in a large saucepan of boiling salted water. Drain well and toss with the sauce.

Spoon onto serving plates and garnish with the Parmesan.
